The one sentence that changed everything
September 18, 2026In April 2025 at our Annual Fundraising Gala, Arleen shared her story with St Gianna Center.
We are excited to share her update!

I took a deep breath while I stood on the stairs that led to the stage at the St. Gianna Center’s 2025 gala. What I was about to do would be hard.
Becky had asked me, a longtime St. Gianna Center client, to be the keynote speaker that year. When she asked, I was newly pregnant for a second time with the soul I thought would be our rainbow baby—we’d lost our first to miscarriage in 2024. But three weeks before the gala, I had another miscarriage. Still, I knew what I needed to do.
I stepped onto the stage and up to the microphone to thank you, the donors who made my pregnancies and the impeccable care I received during my miscarriages possible by ensuring that the St. Gianna Center exists to help couples like us.
A year later, at the Center’s 2026 gala in April, I walked up those same stairs and onto that same stage with an obvious update—I had a baby bump, 25 weeks pregnant with a baby girl.
Today, I have another update.
On August 3rd, at 11:02 a.m., we heard our double rainbow baby cry for the first time as Dr. Carlos Lamoutte delivered her at South Florida Baptist Hospital.
Our daughter’s name is Naomi Blaise—Naomi after Naomi in the book of Ruth, and Blaise because we were married on the feast of St. Blaise.

Naomi’s story in the Bible shows how God can transform sorrow into hope and God’s ability to bring redemption out of suffering. For so many, God has used the St. Gianna Center to do the same thing. My husband, Nick, and I are grateful to be among them.
As I write this, Naomi is six weeks old, and I still can’t look at photos from the operating room without crying. I can’t believe she’s finally here. And I have to thank you again.
We are grateful for your support for the St. Gianna Center, which has long supported us. Your prayers for us and for your accompaniment on this journey mean so much to us too.
We hope to see you all again at next year’s gala, this time with our baby girl.
